Winter Stories

Sophie and I are longing for snow. We went to the library and brought home many books about winter and snow. Some of her favorites were; "Grandmother Winter" by Phyllis Root, "Winter Waits" by Lynn Plourde and "The Snowflake Sisters" by J. Patrick Lewis. "Grandmother Winter" is an old folktale, it is very pagan in origin and beautifully illustrated by Beth Krommesin this version. These are all available at amazon and probably your local bookstore.

We got rain last night and it is still drizzling this morning. Alas I fear we may never have the snow we so long for. The older kids return to school tomorrow after winter break. They are just thrilled, as I'm sure you guessed. Really it is good for them, they are bored, school gives them structure and something to do. Sophie and I can resume our regular schedule and begin some of the new things I have planned for this year. Including the yoga for kids practice, hiking the Greenways here in town, and more cooking and crafts. Yesterday we made Gingerbread babies, based on her book "Gingerbread Baby" by Jan Brett. That was a lot of fun and Sophie enjoyed eating him afterwards.
I am looking forward to many projects and new ventures this year.
