Country Bohemian Home

Well we finally got out of the city. We found a rental property with a lot of acreage and cows and wild turkeys are included in our view out the windows. We are loving it so far. At night we can see the stars, so many stars. I had forgotten how many there were. There are no sounds of traffic or sirens or even dogs. It is my idea of heaven really. And most exciting of all, I finally have a flock of chickens. Well, chicks right now. Four little White Leghorns and two Barred Rocks. The place cam with a chicken coop that just needed a few repairs and updates. Sorry for the photo heavy post, but I wanted to share my joy.

New Bohemian Home!

We finally found the perfect home for us. It is just right, on a beautiful piece of fenced property in the school district that we wanted to keep Sophie in. It has space, space for all four of us, and for the four pets, as well as the puppy that Sophie is requesting for her 10th birthday next year. I am so thrilled with it. I was at work today thinking about how the light shines through the many windows in the living/dining room and catches the sparkles in the sun catchers and crystals that hang there. I was wondering what my hubby was doing in our lovely new home. I have so many bohemian plans for the space, and especially the garden/yard. More on that to come. Peace.

More of the tiny house

Finally getting around to posting the other photos of the tiny bohemian house we now live in.
Not the best quality, but first is the kids room.
The bathroom sink, and the tub area.
Then last our bedroom with a view into the hallway and the bath.

TIny Bohemian Home

Finally got the photos of the house to load. The first one is the kitchen as you walk in the back door.
The next one is the dining 'room'. viewed from the living room
Then we have the living room with two furry friends relaxing there.
The best part of the house I think, is the fire place, so awesome during this cold weather.
The living room looking into the hall and the kids room.
And finally, the living room looking toward the front door.
Next I will share some photos of the bedrooms and bath, also outside. This little house is taking some aadjustments on all our part, but it is cozy.

Recent Boho FInds

Here are a few new additions to my bohemian home;
a fabulous table runner, I think, from India. I am going to use it as a wall hanging its just so gorgeous. David brought it home from the thrift store, he knows exactly what I like.:)

Here is 'Ericka' former beauty school head turned hat model in my living room.

And another awesome vintage Samsonite case. Once I have a couple more, I will make them into a night table.

My Bohemia

Hey there, just wanted to share some of the bohemian~isms that can be found around Witchwood.
First, this is my favorite piece of furniture, and it's an heirloom. It belonged to my grandmother, it dates to the forties, I think. Anyway, when she was put into a nursing home around 11 years ago, I inherited her dresser. It means a lot to me and the kids are on strict orders to be very careful around it. It resides now in my room, after living in Emily's until she moved out. I love it!
However it does not hold a lot and so......

.....much of my clothing has to be stored in this old vintage Samsonite case. Its very cool I think.

Here in the living room, is a folksy art piece of a sun. Has a sort of Aztec or Mayan feel to it to me. It goes quite nicely with the vintage leather painted piece of Ixchel. (photo coming soon)

This is the fabulous lamp in my bedroom. I don't know how old it is, but it has the 70's written all over it. (not literally of course)

This is another piece int he living room, it is actually a framed piece of upholstery fabric. Love the art deco horses!

That's it for now.....more posts to come.

PSA: Do Not Try This At Home

OK, here is one very good reason not to make your own fireworks or smoke bombs in the kitchen. My dear hubby, in trying to make smoke bombs for our teenagers to shoot off on the fourth, cooks up a homemade recipe for smoke bombs on the kitchen stove. (Note: he has done this before with no mishap)
While said recipe is cooking at high heat, a chunk of molten brown sugar leaps from the pot and causes a flash explosion on my kitchen stove! It immediately went out, however, my hubby is very good at making smoke bombs so my entire two story house is filled with smoke!
(this photo shows what the smoke bombs do outside the house)
In the midst of running around, with a deafening smoke detector going off, getting fans, opening windows, removing pets from the house, and assuring the frantic neighbor that we are all ok, hubby says, "oh, by the way, it blew up in my face and I am burned."

Hubby has singed off eyebrow, eye lashes, one side of his head the hair is shorter, he has five small blisters already forming on his forearm, and also stepped on a molten piece of sugar that hit the floor and has this monster of a blister on the bottom of his foot! Ouch!!
Not only was my stove covered with black, charred blobs of brown sugar, but the ceiling has black spots on it, and the floor in front of my stove looks like this....

From the outside, this looks hysterically funny. And it was to us after the initial scare. He really could have been seriously injured. As it is he has had to construct a special shoe to be able to walk, that alone is funny to see. He has nearly no eyelash on the one eye, again funny to see. lol And it was Very painful the first day. He was very lucky and we are so glad that the pets or Sophie were not in the room. Thank Goddess for that.

Witchwood~My Home

There are so many things that I love about my home. In the past four years since we moved into this lovely house, we have been through an inordinate amount of stress and upheaval. There were times when we were unsure if we would be able to hold onto our home here. Times even, when I thought it would be easier just to give it up and move on. But we persevered and I am happy that we did. This home is loving, warm, open to friends and family, and sometimes, community. We share and learn and grow together here. This house, Witchwood, has always been the one that the children in the neighborhood congregate to. A former resident of the neighborhood, who grew up here, told us that when she was a child, this house, with it's former resident, held an open door policy for the neighborhood children. There was always something to do and something to eat here. The same is true now, we have a number of children, along with our own three, at any given time of day. There is laughter and fun, and the house seems to smile and open itself to them all. We feel blessed that we are fortunate enough to have this home and that we can make it loving and warm, and inviting to our friends and neighbors. Hestia is alive and well at Witchwood. I leave you with these shots of some of my favorite things about my home. Witchwood.

The witch ball in the window
My porch~where so much fun and sharing takes place
The stonework that is such a big part of Witchwood, adds character

The beading from India that circles the lamp

The tire swing in the Sycamore, that has brought so much joy
The fire pit for rituals, bonfires, and s'mores!

The guitar wall hanging David made of carpet remnants in the family room

The warm red brick of the old chimney

My kitchen witch of straw David brought me from the flea market

"Old Peter" the concrete rabbit found in the woods
These are just some of the things that I love about my home. Hope you enjoyed the tour.

Spring Projects

Here are a couple of recent spring projects that we have been working on around the house. First, the after the spring cover on the trampoline disintegrated last year, David has been working on a creative way to cover and pad the springs, and he came up with this! Fun-Noodles! He cut them to the size of the springs, unhooked the springs, and then fitted the fun noodle over them, and voila! Instant cover, at a cost of about $5 or less. Not to mention it is just so colorful and fun! I have a very innovative and creative hubby.

Our trampoline has become the hit of the neighborhood, with most of the kids around here coming to play.

Monday afternoon, Sophie and I repainted her little vintage wooden chairs. She chose purple and pink, of course, her two favorite colors, to match her Dora table. She did a really good job of painting. I got more paint on me than she did. LOL You can see the green and orange that the chairs used to be in this next photo. (Please ignore the messy family room, I swear it doesn't look like that now, really)
