This is what greeted me on Mother's Day evening. David found these in the dumpster at our local CVS Pharmacy. In the dumpster! There is nothing wrong with them, and there were many, many more that he did not get. They were marketed for Mother's Day and thrown out at the closing of business on that same day. These flowers are in perfect condition, all bulbs, daffodils, crocus, hyacinth, and amaryllis. This is so disgusting to me, the waste. These could have been donated to retirement homes and nursing homes to those who have no family to give them the brightness of fresh flowers. Or to those in the hospitals. What a waste, I am glad to have saved some of them, most now reside in my gardens. See the photo below.

What a shame those beautiful flowers would have gone to the landfill. I'm glad you got to enjoy them. Thank you for visiting me along the world of blogs. I have added you to my bloglines list.
Peace to you and yours~
That is crazy that they were throwing out all those lovely flowers, but I'd say great score on your end! They look great planted and will be a joy for many years to come.
So, you all are already into strawberry season? (I am commenting on two posts at once!) That baffles my mind as we still have about a month to go! I can't wait.
All I can say is, Wow! That they were all being thrown out, and that your hubby was so thrifty and thoughtful.
Wow, good for you! Your garden looks beautiful.
that's amazing! what a wasteful society we live in. i'm so glad they found a good home with you!
Hey Yarrow, what a great find! Glad to see you've given them a good home. Why didn't they just sell them off at a reduced price the next day? Beats me!
