Singing the Praises of Yoga

Well, I am fighting a UTI. Yuck! They make me feel terrible. Just drug out and tired. I was planning to skip yoga today, since I was already feeling less than myself, then Sophie wanted me to "help" her do yoga. So I did only a Kneeling Sun Salutation, and it was amazing how much better I felt right away! So I went on to help Sophie with the Tree Pose, Child's Pose, The Plough and a couple of stretching poses. She's pretty good, but she gets the giggles while trying to do balance poses. Its so cute, she tries really hard, and says when she grows up she'll be able to do it just like me. I told her it wouldn't take that long if she practiced, "you just have to practice" is her tag line now for the past few weeks. No matter what it is you or she is trying to do, she will say "you just have to practice". A very important lesson learned at a very young age. Yoga is teaching me and Sophie quite a few lessons.

I made a wonderful legume and veggie soup yesterday along with a couple of loaves of homemade whole wheat bread. What a delicious dinner it turned out to be, but it was even better heated up for lunch today. Another benefit of yoga, I am craving the unhealthy foods and drinks, much less. Today I didn't touch a diet coke until lunch, I usually begin my day with one, and when I did drink a little my stomach protested. I don't know if it is the yoga practice, though I do suspect it is, I have read that it can happen. Once you start practicing yoga, your body and mind become in tune and you no longer want or need the foods and drinks that don't add to the good feelings that yoga has given you. We will see if it is a fluke or not. I have not been able to try any of the recipes in the Yoga Cookbook yet. I will have to wait for our big grocery shopping day to get supplies. But I am looking forward to it, and have a few recipes picked out already.
