I finally finished my first skirt! I am so stoked! This skirt is made entirely of recycled material. The denim were two pair of blue jeans that had seen better days. The blue flower print was some leftover vintage calico from another sewing project, as were the yellow solid and the vintage yellow behind the sunflower petals. I have some practicing to do on my applique technique, but as this was my prototype, I think it turned out really well.

This shows the back side of the skirt with the drawstring bustle
waistline, it fits between a 30" and 50" waistline.

Close up on the applique, doing the satin stitch on a basic sewing machine that is 20 years old, was harder than I thought it would be. I am going to enjoy wearing this skirt and I am raring to go on the next one! Yeah!

Aw man....I love that! I have a bunch of things that could be recycled into clothes that look that cute!
P.S. I love the pic of you and your husband.
satin stitch on a sewing machine like that also uses up a TON of thread! O.O
Thanks Mare, that is one of three that he took of us on Saturday at the Earth Day Festival. Ever since we got together he has taken them of us that way.
That is so true, herbwifemama, it does indeed use a ton of thread, unfortunately, my hand embroidery is notthat good, and a new machine is out of the budget for now.
I didn't leave compliments yesterday, and I just wanted to say that I LOVE the skirt! I think you did a great job on the machine applique- I'm not so good at it myself- need practice. :) And I especially love that back drawstring- I saw that on a skirt on Etsy, and I think it's brilliant- definitely more flattering for my body type, anyway. :)
